UCF College of Graduate Studies
Dedicated faculty and staff members and
administrators have helped UCF build a variety of first-class
graduate programs through the years, and the number and breadth of
those programs has continued to grow. I am pleased to tell you that
an examination of graduate education at UCF has resulted in the
decision to establish a new College of Graduate Studies.
Effective Aug. 8, the college will replace the
Division of Graduate Studies. Patricia Bishop, vice provost and dean
for the Division of Graduate Studies, will serve as the college’s
founding dean. The new college will be created with no additional
employees.
The college will help to more clearly define
our vision of excellence for the graduate community at UCF.
Administrators, faculty and staff members, and students will work
together in the coming months to determine how best to achieve this
vision and bring a more collaborative and strategic approach to our
excellent graduate programs.
Our goals include further enhancing the quality
of our graduate programs, expanding access and recruiting, and
retaining more of the best and brightest students. We also seek to
build a stronger community among graduate students and faculty
members, while encouraging the pursuit of interdisciplinary studies
and research.
I encourage faculty and staff members,
administrators, and students to offer thoughts and suggestions to
Dean Bishop as we develop this new structure for graduate education.
Beginning in August, the College of Graduate Studies will hold
meetings with other colleges and the Graduate Student Association.
The college will also host open forums to encourage feedback.
Meeting notices and updates will be posted at
www.graduate.ucf.edu.
Thank you for your continued dedication
to our graduate students and programs.

Terry L. Hickey, Ph.D. Provost and Executive Vice President
